FIRST LOOK: PXG’s new 0211 drivers, fairway woods and hybrids
Ryan Barath
PXG continues to expand its product line to fit golfers in every category of the market, and the new 0211 line of metal woods is a perfect example. Here’s what you can expect to find when it comes to the equipment manufacturer’s new 0211 drivers, fairway woods and hybrids.
Background
When PXG first entered the market place price was always the first topic of conversation. Their initial 0311 iron was unique in the golf world and it came with a premium price.
In the 8 years since that first iron, PXG has continued to offer technology-pushing clubs that come with a price but they have recognized that not everything has to be boundary-pushing to have a big impact on golfers.
The 0211 lineup
The new 0211 line of clubs continue to offer high-end technology but scales back on everything that many golfers aren’t looking for in the first place.
The new fairway woods and hybrids for example have been stripped of any of the famous PXG adjustable weights in favor of fixed hosel and internal weighting designed to offer maximum forgiveness. Further, the only adjustability on the driver comes in the form of an adjustable hosel to help dial in loft, which at this point is an absolute must-have.
“You get far more than you pay for! These golf clubs represent a well-researched design that strips away all distractions while employing top-quality materials and advanced technologies to help make the game easier and more enjoyable for golfers across the board.” – PXG Founder Bob Parsons
PXG engineers might have scaled back on little things, but the materials used in the 0211 metal woods are the same as the ones found in their most premium products where it really counts.
The 0211 driver utilizes a premium 412 titanium face with a variable thickness design to improve ball speed on mishits while the fairway woods and hybrids use an HT1770 stainless steel face which is stronger than the conventional 17-4 stainless.
The fairway woods and hybrids gain extra forgiveness thanks to a squared-up face design that expands the hitting area which in turn expands the ability for the face to flex when hit away from the middle.
From the manufacturing side, PXG used precision robotic polishing for the 0211 metal woods to ensure the final face thicknesses and specs, including bulge and roll, are to the highest tolerances possible. From a general industry perspective robotic polishing has continued to gain traction to increase precision from club to club and for PXG to bring this to the 0211 line shows that the technology has come a long way in a short period of time.
